Invitation to a specific spiritual discipline:
I invite you as disciples of Jesus to take some time this week, to meditate on these words of the Scriptures. Perhaps the following would be a helpful method:
Read the Text for the Week at the beginning of each day.
…the disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat…” (Matthew 14:15b-16)
Reflect on what the text means for you between the events of your day.
Pray this week:
Your Spirit is ever-present in this world you have created. You are the God of abundance and yet, you are also there in the places we might think of as abandoned or deserted by grace and life. Always and everywhere, by your Word and by gracious hand, we are fed with your Bread of Life. Help us to have hearts to know you in the gifts you send to sustain. Help us also to share the blessings and love with which your Holy Spirit graces us day by day.
This day, giving you praise and thanks, I also ask your ear, dear Saviour, in listening to the prayers that are on my heart… [include perhaps confession for personal and communal sin and brokenness, needs, intercessions for others, prayers of thanks, etc.].
We pray as your church this week for. . .[include here that the Spirit gives you to pray].
In Jesus’ name I/we pray. Amen.
