Invitation to a specific spiritual discipline:
I invite you as disciples/students of Jesus to take some time this week, to meditate on these words of the Scriptures. Perhaps the following would be a helpful method:
Read the Text for the Week at the beginning of each day:
[After many were following Jesus, a difficult teaching of Jesus caused many to turn away] Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:66-69)
Reflect on what the text means for you between the events of your day.
Pray this week:
Jesus, you have the words of Life for us: words that bring us hope in dark times, words that build in us thankful hearts in good times, words that bring us back to Life even in death. We praise you for your words of Eternal life. Keep us ever near your deep and lasting Life.
This day I ask your ear in listening to the prayers that are on my heart. . . [perhaps include confession for personal sin, prayers of thanks for blessings received, requests for personal needs, intercessions for others, and whatever the Spirit gives you to pray].
In Jesus’ name I/we pray. Amen.
